Visiting Thailand: A Memorable Class Trip

Updated: Jun 28, 2024

This April we went on a trip to Bangkok. It  was an action packed, fun and definitely educational adventure. Not only did we learn a lot during our excursion, we also learnt how to plan a trip beforehand, everybody had their own sector to plan before our journey. It was undoubtedly a memorable experience.

For the weeks to come before our trip we spent hours planning out what we would do, eat, where we could stay, and how we would get there. We worked in pairs of two; We planned everything out and then presented it. This gave us insight on how to plan an international school trip. Then on April 5th, we all arrived at school early and headed to the airport for our 4 day trip. We got on our plane and everything went smoothly. We arrived in Bangkok one and a half hours later.  We exchanged our money at the airport (which we later learned was a bad idea, since the exchange rate wasn’t the best), and took the BTS (skytrain) to the station. From there, we took another BTS to a mall where we ate before heading to the hotel. We soon realized that the activities we had planned for the day were not going to happen. So instead we enjoyed the view from our hotel and watched a movie together.

The next morning, we woke up and took a taxi, then we headed out to eat. Afterwards we went off to the famous temples; Upon arriving there, two men came up to us telling us they were closed until later in the afternoon and that we should instead take a boat tour. They sent us off in a tuk-tuk to the boat tour area and we decided to take their advice, this was a group decision, and went on the tour. During the tour we passed many temples and went to the famous floating markets. Afterwards we went inside the Wat Arun temple. By this time many of my classmates were tired and hot, so after looking around and feeling the power of the temples, we headed back. The few who wanted to headed to a museum later that afternoon, to which we arrived 10 minutes before closing time. Although we had very little time, the art pieces were beautiful explaining the protests in Thailand. Throughout our trip we had to pay for the food and train rides and learn to write down the costs. We also learned how to figure out which train to take and that not everything goes as planned.

The next day, we headed to the mall and spent our afternoon there after visiting the Jim Thompson house.  Everyone was allowed to do their own thing as long as we checked in every 30 minutes and stayed with our buddies. The boys won a basketball competition that day and won a coupon for food. That night we went to a night market and bought clothing, souvenirs and food. The next morning we went out and saw water monitors, then headed back and enjoyed a chill afternoon.

The following day we headed back to Vietnam, and our trip came to an end. I will never forget the incredible experience with my classmates, the laughter, the activities, the very hot sun, and the many memories we made.
